Renowned BBC journalist Azzam Ameen may have been blocked from conducting political interviews or attending press conferences according the Colombo Telegraph.
No particular reasons have been officially given by the BBC, although many attribute the recent story by Ameen which forced Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena to abstain the appointment of the controversial Anuruddha Polgampola as the Timber Corporation Chairman could be a possibility.
Azzam Ameen,is reputed to being fearless as well as a probing journalist and was also recently adjudged the most popular journalist in social media, has been informed by his superiors that he will not be allowed to do political interviews or attend press conferences.
Sources add, that BBC Sinhala‘s chief Sangeeth Kalubowila, is a close friend of Dharmasri Bandara Ekanayake, the Senior media Director to the President at President’s Office and both of them earlier worked together at thee media organisation MTV (Sirasa).
